The Growing Anti-terrorist Terrorism - A Call To Arms For Hackers
Published on July 15, 2004 By Lenbert In Misc
Are you aware of the growing technology-savvy terrorists that are on the rise?

Terrorists certainly aren't the 3rd-world, illiterate individuals as the general Western public perceives them to be. They are hacking website servers in an endeavor to proclaim their accomplishments, publicizing their rhetoric, and in some instances, offering their multimedia downloads as well.

This idea peaked my interest several months ago with a link to a Windows Media video of the Nick Berg murder on the al Jazeera website. Within hours, the link was taken down, either because of bandwidth overload, the Hosts of the media file(s) realized that their was a security breach, or someone drilled into the hacked website and shut down the page. The same scenario ocured for the release of the multi-media files for the Paul Johnson murder.

Anti-propaganda Propaganda

Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, a Muslim, fluent in several languages including Arabic, was abducted. A video surfaced showing the obligatory masked captors of the Islamic Response Movement, with Mr. Hassoun at their knees. The terrorist's demands were to free the Iraqi prisoners, or Mr./Cpl. Hassoun would be murdered. Several days later it was reported that Hassoun had been decapitated. The alleged information originated from yet another group, the "Army of Ansar al-Sunna". In less than 24 hours, the "real" captors issued a response proclaimimg (paraphrasing) "No! We did not say that!"

Confused yet? Bear with me.

Apparently the "Army of Ansar al-Sunna" was a bogus group claiming that they had murdered Hassoun. Hassoun was still alive and well in the company of his captors - the Islamic Response Movement.

Someone, somewhere is playing technological "chicken" with the terrorists.

On Monday, 7/12, the Northeast Intelligence Nework (http://www.homelandsecurityus.com/) unveiled that they had found evidence that the Arkansas Department Of Transportation was being hacked by a user named "Irhabi 007" or "Terrorist 007". T007 had found a hole in the AKDOT, in order to host al Quaida propaganda. The site was being used, exploiting the site's bandwidth for terrorist propaganda, at tax-payers expense.

Summation

A call to arms to all of the Western Hackers that are out there! I know the ethical hackers look for "holes" on a seemingly "secure" server, without infecting the server with any malicious code, or perpetrating anything destructive. There are, however, the Hackers that purposely find the "holes" and exploit the hell out of a site. My "call to arms" is for a truce with any Hacker, if he or she is willing to exploit these terrorist bastards. Trace them, tunnel to them, get their information, and then REPORT them to the FBI, CIA or DoD. In at least one instance, the anti-propaganda propaganda caused the terrorists to make a second statement to deny the bogus statement. It was revealing in that it exposed their soft under-belly. Any information is more than likely worth a monetary reward, or at the very least, a job with the FBI, CIA or DoD.
